Last week I was delighted to find out that I’m an Event Photography Awards 2017 finalist!

One of my event photographs has made the shortlist of five images in the “Behind the Scenes” category at the Event Photography Awards 2017. The awards ceremony is being held at the Grade II listed Dutch Hall, London on Thursday 27th April.

The shortlisted image that made the final in the Behind the Scenes category was captured on the film set of Padlock, a funded Kickstarter film. I was invited to capture documentary style photographs of the cast and crew whilst filming one day on set in London.

Directed and co-written by Ben S Hyland, Padlock is a fictional short film that tackles one of societies final taboos. Domestic abuse against men. Starring Valmike Rampersad (Cloud 9, Mile End) who plays Matt, Rebecca Grant (Holby City), Gina Bramhill (Made in Dagenham, Brief Encounters, The Living and the Dead), Antonia Bernath (The Boat That Rocked, St Trinian’s, Downton Abbey).

In this scene, Matt is on the receiving end of domestic violence. I think the fact that you can’t see Matt’s face in the photograph adds to the dramatic nature of the image.

I’m very privileged to be an Event Photography Awards 2017 finalist in the “Behind the Scenes” category as this reflects my approach to event photography for my clients – capturing moments as they happen in a discreet manner – whether that be for photographs on a film set through to corporate awards ceremonies or luxury birthday parties.

The trailer of the film can be found here: Padlock Film Trailer and more photographs from my time on set can he found here: Behind the scenes of the Kickstarter Film Padlock.
