It was great fun photographing behind the scenes unit / film stills of the funded Kickstarter film Padlock. From my headshot photography work with actor Valmike Rampersad, I was invited to capture reportage style photographs of the cast and crew whilst filming one day on set.
Directed and co-written by Ben S Hyland, Padlock is a fictional short film that tackles one of societies final taboos. Domestic abuse against men. Starring Valmike Rampersad (Cloud 9, Mile End), Rebecca Grant (Holby City), Gina Bramhill (Made in Dagenham, Brief Encounters, The Living and the Dead), Antonia Bernath (The Boat That Rocked, St Trinian’s, Downton Abbey).
The Narrative:
Matt wakes. A morning like any other. He enters the bathroom. The padlock hangs on the cabinet. He inspects it. Has it moved? Has it been tampered with? Only Julie has the key. He’s safe. For now at least.
Julie has a busy day at work. Matt prepares her favourite meal. A knock on the door. A surprise visit from his sister. This is out of his routine. A broken routine usually has consequences. She has good news but he is preoccupied. He must remove all traces of her visit.
Julie returns. Sensing something is wrong. Removing the key, opening the padlock and releasing the horrific secret kept inside.
I can’t give away any of the plot lines (and nor do the photos below), but this intense and dramatic film will be a must see!
Shortly after filming, I was invited by Valmike to cover the New York premiere for his latest film Bazodee, however, I’m unable to make it due to prior work commitments – but hey, that’s show business…
